Progress in the application of drinking water acidifiers in laying hen production

1. Improve egg production rate

Yu Rui et al. found that adding acidifiers (14% formic acid, 14% acetic acid, 10% lactic acid, 2.5% propionic acid) to drinking water and feeding laying hens with acidified water of pH 4 every other day can significantly improve the average egg weight and egg production rate of eggs produced by laying hens aged 32-43 weeks, and significantly reduce the feed-egg ratio. Zhao Xiaonan et al. found that in 361-day-old Roman brown laying hens, liquid acid with formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, lactic acid and citric acid as the main components was added throughout the whole process at a ratio of 1/1000. The experimental period was 6 weeks, and the average daily egg production rate increased by 21.78%.

2. Improve egg quality

Dong Wenwen et al. found that for 350-day-old Roman Grey commercial laying hens, each experimental group added 0.05%, 0.10% and 0.20% drinking water acid (phosphoric acid, formic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, lactic acid) to the drinking water. Samples were taken on the 49th day of the experimental period. The Haugh unit of eggs in each group increased. Adding 0.10% to the drinking water can increase the egg production rate of laying hens without reducing the egg quality, and the economic benefits are 3.81% higher than the control group. Zhao Xu et al. added 0.1% drinking water acid (formic acid, acetic acid) to the drinking water of 36-week-old Hy-Line Brown laying hens, which can reduce the mortality rate of laying hens by 100% at the 50th week of age and increase the yolk-to-white ratio by 5%.
